Lincoln County Shrine Club

The Al Kader Clubs are a local presence for Shriners.

The Lincoln County Renegades are bringing attention to the fez by riding in a lot of parades this summer, beginning with Newport back on May 6th and many more since then. (The attached photo was taken at the Waldport Parade on June 17th.) Several great lunches have been hosted by Nobles’ ladies after the parades. The Club’s annual steak fry will be held on August 25th at the usual location near Lincoln City, which the Potentate is cordially invited to attend.

Lincoln County Shrine Club by Noble Gregory Armstrong

We all made it through the very long rainy season and finally summer is here along with the sun and hot weather. The Renegades are part way though the summer parade schedule with 6 under our belts and 7 more to go.

The East/West football game and parade will be coming up fast so lets plan to make it there to cheer on the hard working players and Shriners that put so much time to make it happen.

Lincoln County will be participating in as many parades and functions as possible. Some of our Shriners have so many commitments that it’s hard to decide which ones to honor. We will be having our Annual Steak Fry on August 25th at Wapiti Park in Lincoln City out Drift Creek Rd. We have a lot of fun with door prizes, raffle and lots of great pot luck. All the ladies bring a dish and Greg Jenkins donates the wonderful corn on the cob. The steak is provided by the club and DJ Johnson cooks the steak. We invite all Shriners to call Gregory Armstrong at 541-563-5029 if you wish to join us.

Happy summer and safe driving.

The Lincoln County Shrine Club brought 2016 to an end out on the Central Coast by hosting its annual donkey basketball game at Newport High School in Newport, Oregon on Saturday afternoon, November 5th. There was an excellent turnout as Juniors battled Seniors, and the ticket sales were remarkable. IS Greg Jenkins and others Nobles were there to cheer on both sides. We look forward to doing it again next year - it’s a lot of fun and a great opportunity to display the fez.

Later the same day, the Lincoln County Shriners held their last stated meeting of 2016 at Newport Lodge No 85 AF & AM, along with an early holiday dinner of turkey, ham, and all the fixin’s. Ladies and family members attended as well. Next year’s officers were duly voted in: Noble Victor Morton (President), Noble Don Andreasen (First Vice President) and Noble Greg Armstrong (Secretary-Treasurer).

This is not to say that the Lincoln County Shriners are done for the year. By the time this issue of the Oasis goes to press, our Renegade cars will have participated in the Albany Veterans Day parade. We look forward to more parades next year - see you then.

For the second half of the summer, the Lincoln County Renegades rode in parades in Philomath, Pacific City, The Dallas and, of course, Baker City. Let’s not forget the Mary’s Peak Shrine Trek and Youth Rodeo held in Philomath on August 12-14. We also enjoyed our annual steak fry at the Wapiti Park Campground in Lincoln City on August 26. We are making every effort to create visibility for the fez, and the feedback has been extremely positive.

As summer winds down, we continue to sell vacation raffle tickets and hope that you are too. Our next Stated Meeting will be held in November in connection with Donkey Basketball at Newport High School. More details to follow on that event. We will wrap up the year with holiday parades in Albany on November 11, and a doubleheader in Springfield and Independence on December 3.

The Lincoln County Renegades continue to thrill the crowds this summer with their precision parade techniques. Recent parades have included Lebanon, Waldport, Sheridan, Tillamook, Independence, and more. And we’re busy selling raffle tickets too. The Lincoln County Shrine Club’s next Stated Meeting will be held on August 26, 2016, featuring grilled meats at the Wapiti Park Campground in Lincoln City.

The Lincoln County Renegades kicked off the 2016 parade season in their own backyard with the Newport Loyalty Days parade on April 30th. Four Nobles performed lots of nifty moves to entertain the crowd. We received so many kudos afterwards. Particularly gratifying (and humbling) was a young man who came up to shake a Noble’s hand because he had undergone a successful back surgery at the Portland Hospital last year. Our next Stated Meeting will be on Saturday, June 25th at 10:30 a.m., just before the step-off for the Tillamook Parade.

Greetings from Lincoln County or, as we prefer to call it, The Land of Ten Thousand Winnebagos.

This year’s officers are Noble Mark Phillips (President}, Noble Greg Armstrong (First Vice President), and Noble Victor Morton (Secretary- Treasurer). Our Divan representative is the incomparable Noble Forrest Hatch.

Our Annual Business Meeting in January set the parameters for the year. Some of the key highlights will be the East-West Game and Mary’s Peak Shrine Trek and Northwest Youth Rodeo in August, Donkey Basketball in (presumably) November, and of course our beloved Renegades at many of the upcoming parades. Look for the nifty red cars!

Our February Stated Meeting was held on February 26th at New China Buffet in Corvallis. We heard from I.S. Greg Jenkins, and we finalized an update of our Club by-laws for submission to the Potentate.

Our next stated meeting will be held on April 22 at 6:30 p.m. again at New China Buffet, 1720 NW 9th Street in Corvallis. Please join us if you can.

We have all had a busy summer with parades and so many great functions. The East/West Shrine football game was again so much fun. The Marty’s Peak Shrine Trek Youth Rodeo finals was a success and with all the great food served and the new addition of popcorn this year it made it exceptional. The parents and the rodeo kids sold more tickets for the hospital than ever before.

Lincoln County Shrine Club is planning their annual August Steak Fry for the 28th and it will be fun for all with door prizes, a raffle and lots of food. The club is also sponsoring Donkey Basketball on Saturday, November 7th at Newport High School when the Newport and Waldport seniors ride the donkeys and both schools receive $350 for their drug free and non alcohol Senior Graduation party for 2016. The seniors and parents look forward to this event each year.

We hope all have had a great and safe summer. Looking forward to seeing every one at the Veterans Day parade in Albany.
